Solar PV Array Fed Zeta Converter- VSI Controlled BLDC Motor Drive for Water Pumping System

This paper presents the solar PV array-fed Zeta converter to maximize the power output from the SPV array for water-pumping applications that utilize brushless DC (BLDC) motors. This motor is more reliable and efficient than conventional DC and AC motors. A PV module rating of 1.9 kW was considered for the study. The zeta converter output, i.e., DC link voltage, is the input of the voltage source inverter (VSI). The electronic commutation control mechanism has a hall signal output, i.e., the rotor position of the motor is controlled by using a hall effect sensor; the output voltage of the hall sensor signal is the feedback to the motor control system, by comparing this voltage with the reference value, the motor controller adjusts the voltage supplied to the motor to achieve desire torque and speed of the motor; and finally, utilizing hall sensor output as back emf feedback allows for more precise control of motor speed and torque without the need for an additional sensor. Hence, VSI operates as a fundamental frequency switching to control the switches of the inverter, and the losses caused by the high switching frequency are neglected without an extra control mechanism for a smooth motor run. The different parameters and performance of the solar water pumping system are evaluated in a MATLAB/Simulink environment.
