Real-Time Modeling Method for Large-Scale Photovoltaic Power Stations Using Nested Fast and Simultaneous Solution

Real-time simulation is an important means of verifying the performance of large-scale photovoltaic (PV) power stations, but it faces a contradiction among accuracy, simulation scale, and hardware resources. To address this issue, a real-time modeling method for large-scale PV stations is proposed in this article. By introducing nested fast and simultaneous solution (NFSS) to construct interface at the unit level and optimize the solution process at the station level, the proposed method can realize high accuracy and good applicability real-time simulation. Meanwhile, a simulation platform based on the field programmable gate array (FPGA) hardware is built to verify its correctness and scalability. Compared with the offline model of the same scale PV station, the maximum relative error is less than 4%. Moreover, the real-time simulation of a 100-units station is realized within 2.5-µs time step.
