Consideration of Energy Efficiency into Wireless Communication Systems

Wireless data consumption in wireless networks is consistently increasing. Several predictions reveal a constant growth of the traffic over time, and this trend is expected to carry on continuing for decades. As the demand for data on our phones and computers increases and the devices size shrinks, ensuring that our wireless works prioritize energy efficiency (EE) becomes crucial. Energy efficiency is measured in bits per Joule, indicating the amount of energy required to transmit one bit of information. Resent researches have shown that we can achieve promising energy efficiency. But, earlier generations of wireless networks only attained low energy efficiency. This raises the question of how energy-efficiency affect the future wireless systems. This work analyzes various methods to enhance energy performance in future wireless networks, considering various scenarios and hardware improvements to enhance energy usage for sustainable wireless connectivity in the 5G era and beyond. This work aims to achieve optimal energy efficiency with a low Signal-to-Noise Ratio, and put the upper limit of the increment of transmitted power and bandwidth into consideration.
