Health And Safety Practices Strategies Implementation In The Fourth Industrial Revolution

Various strategies have been implemented in the global construction industry (CI) to enhance safety practices and improve the working environment, considering the inherent dangers associated with construction activities. This study focuses on exploring the implementation of health and safety (H&S) practices strategies in the fourth industrial revolution (4IR) within the CI, with Lagos, Nigeria, as the case study location. The primary objective of this research is to investigate the strategies employed for effectively implementing H&S practices in the CI during the 4IR. To achieve this objective, a field survey was conducted to assess the strategies employed for H&S practices by construction professionals in Lagos, Nigeria. Data collection was carried out using a simple random sampling technique, retrieving 187 questionnaires from CI professionals operating within the study area. Through the use of a statistical data equation (mathematical equation), the valid mean item score was determined. The findings of this study revealed that wearable technology and smart personal protective equipment (PPE), support for safety planning, regular equipment inspections, training of workers on digitalization tools, and efficient workflow were the highest-ranked strategies employed for implementing H&S practices during the 4IR. Based on the study's findings, it is recommended that stakeholders and construction firms in the industry upgrade their technical skills and invest in digitalization tools, technology, and resources to effectively implement strategies that enhance H&S practices within the construction processes.
