Enabling media production with AIGC and its ethical considerations

With the rapid rise of AIGC in the digital industry, the media sector is undergoing an unprecedented transformation. AIGC not only significantly enhances the efficiency of media content production but also shapes a vibrant digital cultural landscape, leading us towards a new era of “human-machine symbiosis.” However, behind this technological revolution, the widespread application of AIGC in media content production has triggered a series of ethical discussions. This paper employs qualitative analysis methods to comprehensively examine existing literature and case studies, aiming to fully understand the impact of AIGC on media content production and explore the accompanying ethical challenges. It is found that the proliferation of AIGC may have profound effects on societal values, cultural identity, as well as pose serious tests to the authenticity and credibility of media content, privacy and data security, and creativity and originality. To address these challenges, a series of strategies are proposed: strengthening regulatory frameworks and legal systems to enhance transparency and accountability, increasing investment in education to raise public awareness and understanding of AIGC technology, and promoting internal industry self-regulation by establishing and enforcing unified standards. These measures will help better address the ethical issues raised by AIGC in media content production, ensuring a harmonious coexistence of technological innovation and societal development, and advancing the digital ecosystem towards a healthier and more sustainable future.
