Design and Electromagnetic–Thermal Analysis of Doubly Salient Electromagnetic Machine for More Electric Engine Based on Excitation Compensation

This article presents the main design features of a doubly salient electromagnetic machine (DSEM) suitable for the more electric engine (MEE). A design method based on excitation magnetic potential compensation for full-wave rectification demagnetization is proposed to improve the DSEM power output. A 3-D temperature field model based on lumped-parameter network is established according to its structural characteristics of uneven radial, circumferential, and axial temperature distribution. The effect of demagnetizing armature reaction on the output power under full-wave rectifier power generation mode for 270-V dc high voltage system of multielectric aircraft is analyzed. Also, the excitation magnetic potential compensation is designed to improve the output power. The electromagnetic characteristics of DSEM applied to MEE, such as magnetic field, inductance, and load characteristics, are studied. Then, the temperature distribution of DSEM is analyzed in detail. Finally, a prototype is manufactured. The experimental data matched with the simulation data, which verified the effectiveness of the design and electromagnetic-temperature characteristics analysis. The design experience can provide a reference for the full-scale design of aviation DSEM.
