Double-ridged Horn Antenna for Electromagnetic Scattering Measurement Experiment

With the development of radar technology, RCS test technology is also moving forward, and the research object has developed from target narrowband RCS to target wideband RCS. Therefore, the need for antenna broadband miniaturization is more urgent. Research on object RCS is justified by simulation or direct measurement, but it is also difficult to obtain object RCS through theory and simulation, because it is difficult to simulate all physical conditions. It is of greater use value to obtain object RCS by practical measurement, and it can also confirm with theory and promote theoretical research. In this paper, a wideband miniaturized double-ridged horn antenna for electromagnetic scattering measurement experiment is designed by using electromagnetic simulation software HFSS. The double-ridged horn antenna is optimized by optimizing the ridge waveguide structure, changing the distance from the feed point to the short-circuit plate and changing the horn section. Then the optimized double-ridged horn antenna is simulated, and the two-dimensional gain pattern at four typical frequency points of 1 GHz, 5 GHz, 8 GHz and 12 GHz is analyzed, and the conclusion is drawn that the pattern at the four frequency points is good. The optimized double-ridged horn antenna has a specific operating frequency of 1 ~ 12 GHz, a gain of more than 8 dB, and the VSWR less than 1.5 in most operating bands. Finally, the optimized double-ridged horn antenna is applied to the RCS electromagnetic measurement experiment of metal cube, and the measurement results of metal cube RCS are compared with those in Feko simulation software, which verifies the accuracy of the designed double-ridged horn antenna measurement results.
