Silicon Prism as a Radiating Element of a Terahertz Photonic Integrated Phased Array Antenna

The development of THz high-speed wireless data transmission systems is inextricably linked with the creation of devices for controlling the radiation pattern. In this paper we propose and analyze the concept of a THz phased array antenna with radiative prism elements integrated with effective-medium waveguides. The radiation patterns of a 2×2 array at various phase differences between the elements were obtained. The transmission spectrum of integral all-dielectric effective-medium waveguides in the range of 135–145 GHz has been studied. The obtained experimental results are in good agreement with the simulation data and confirm the possibility of practical implementation of the proposed phased array antenna.
