On the Efficiency of Adding Redundancy in Disk Arrays, using Nonlinear Codes

In modern information science, where reliability and data integrity play a key role, disk arrays with error-correcting codes, are becoming an integral part of information storage. With the constant growth of data volumes and increasing requirements for information security, the issue of effective methods for ensuring data integrity has high relevance. One advanced approach to this problem, is the usage of error correction codes in disk arrays. This paper proposes the use of nonlinear codes, in the process of writing data to disk arrays. The main target of our work is to investigate, how nonlinear codes affect both performance and efficiency of disk arrays. Nonlinear codes are more complex, both in theory and practice, than linear ones, but they support higher encoding speed. In addition, nonlinear codes have lower decoding complexity, which allows to reduce the load on the system.
