A Novel Single-Switch High Step-Up DC-DC Converter Based on Quadratic Boost for Renewable Energy Applications

The resiliency of the power grid can be further improved by decentralized power generation from various renewable energy resources. High step-up DC-DC converters find extensive use in such applications, including solar photovoltaic (PV) arrays, LED lighting, UPS, and fuel cells, as well as providing sufficient voltage levels to feed grid-connected inverters. The present paper proposes a new structure for a high step-up DC-DC converter employing a single-switch arrangement, addressing the urgent demand for high-voltage gain power solutions. The converter, distinguished by its costeffective utilization of widely available components and a single low-side main switch, along with lower buffer capacitor voltage stress and identical uncoupled inductors, results in a compact design. Furthermore, the continuous input current characteristic fulfills the requirements of renewable energy applications. With proven applications in diverse fields, the proposed structure addresses the necessity for high voltage ratio DC-DC converters, facilitating the transformation of low voltage to significantly higher voltages to feed inverters or any DC bus system. Additionally, the paper provides detailed formulas, operational states, and simulation results using MATLAB/Simulink, validating the efficacy of the proposed converter.
