About Controlling the Autonomous Car Movement on the Road

The autonomous movement of a car in a structured environment is possible based on a map, with the location of the vehicle by GPS and a destination specified by a user or by the vehicle management system. LIDAR sensors are essential for autonomous vehicles to detect other vehicles or obstacles on the road. Controlling the movement of self-driving vehicles is an important aspect of the development of intelligent transportation systems (ITS), for people and goods safety. The estimation of distances is very similar to the perception of distances through binocular vision in humans and using artificial intelligence (AI) techniques can optimize it [4]. In this paper, we simulate controlling the movement of an autonomous vehicle on a lane of the road using MATLAB program. We discuss the results for different time values when obstacles occurs in front of the vehicle.
