Dead-Beat-based Model Predictive Current Control for the Dual-Purpose dc-dc/ac PWM Modular Power Converter

Power electronic converters are essential for integrating renewable energy sources into modern electrical systems and for configuring nanogrids and microgrids. These systems currently feature an architecture that hybridizes dc and ac buses. In this paradigm, dual-purpose converters have emerged, which can connect to both dc and ac grids, providing modularity and standardization in converter configuration. This paper contributes to the control system of this family of converters by proposing and developing a dead-beat-type current control for the dual-purpose dc-dc/ac PWM modular power converter. The proposed current controller is verified with successful results through simulation in four different applications: from dc to three-phase ac conversion with three-wire and with four-wire configurations, and from dc to unipolar dc and to bipolar dc conversion.
