Resource Allocation for the IEEE 802.11ax OFDMA Mechanism Based on Dynamic Programming Combined with Timsort

On February 1, 2021, the IEEE Standards Board ratified IEEE 802.11ax, also known as Wi-Fi 6. This latest generation of Wi-Fi allows stations to access different channel bandwidths to transmit their packets under the Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (OFDMA) mechanism. This paper proposes a method for solving the optimization problem based on Dynamic Programming (DP) combined with Timsort to solve the resource unit allocation problem under the OFDMA mechanism. This paper demonstrates that DP combined with Timsort can reduce channel bandwidth wastage and reduce the difference in the average wait time per packet for stations in the network, thereby improving the efficiency and fairness of wireless networks. The experiments in this paper simulated downlink traffic under the OFDMA mechanism through a Python simulator. The experiments compared the performance of First In, First Out (FIFO), and DP combined with Timsort under the same wireless network scenario.
