Smart & Scalable Lighting System Using Motion Sensors, Light Dependent Resistors and ESP8266 Controller Board

Efficiency in our day-to-day lives has increased a IoT due to the implementation of Internet of Things (loT) based smart systems. loT has revolutionized our lifestyles with an event-based architecture in which every event triggers our devices to give us data. In this report, I have demonstrated such an event-based, efficient, and scalable way of implementing a smart lighting system in both commercial and non-commercial settings. The main objective of this report is to illustrate the fact that a scalable and event-based smart lighting system can be implemented in an economical way, saving both cost and energy. To implement the proposed system, I have used Passive Infrared Sensors (PIRs) and Light Dependant Resistors (LDRs) with a central microcontroller ESP8266 (WiFi Module) which continuously sends sensor data to the ThingSpeak cloud for data storage and further processing. In this paper, I have also demonstrated the scalability formulation that I have applied to make the storage and processing of big data easier and efficient in such a way that the system can scale up and down flexibly to accommodate the increment and decrement of sensor big data. As such, energy consumption can be reduced, while big data manipulation can be increased to a great extent. The proposed lighting system reduces the cost by 25 % and adjusts the power consumption to a great extent.
