Evaluating Interference Impact on On-board Small Station Systems in Railway Networks

This research investigates the interference caused by the on-board small station system in railway networks, specifically in the context of the IAB+5G approach for improving signal coverage on high-speed train carriages. The study quantifies the spurious interference, blocking interference, and adjacent channel interference resulting from the on-board small station system on both the existing GSM-R and 5G-R systems. The findings demonstrate that the spurious interference and blocking interference comply with the standard requirements for both systems. However, attention should be given to addressing the issue of adjacent channel interference to the GSM-R base station when the 5G gateway operates in the GSM900 frequency band. Future research endeavors should focus on resolving this interference challenge while ensuring seamless coexistence between the on-board small station system and railway networks.
