Immunity test result and consideration of open-source flight-controller mounting UAV for applying IEMI protection device

Recently, UAVs are used for a variety of services such as agriculture, aerial photography, inspection, and logistics, and are also used for weather observation. NTT R&D is conducting research on how to prevent damage to equipment and people from lightning by flying UAVs equipped with lightning protection capabilities at high altitudes near thunderclouds and receiving lightning strikes. To develop a lightning-resistant UAV, it is first necessary to consider the UAV immunity and vulnerability. UAV flight controllers are equipped with many sensors, and failure of the sensor itself, inability to control attitude due to sensor signal communication errors, stoppage due to power regulator failure, thermal damage to motor drivers, rare short in the diode. A crush accident may be caused by these failures. Therefore, it is necessary to take countermeasures at vulnerable points. However, although CISPR and other organizations are working to develop international standards for immunity testing methods to UAV, they have not yet been established now. For this reason, we will introduce our own immunity testing method for UAV equipped with open-source flight-controller and the results.
