Implementation and Verification of Secure Boot in Embedded Systems

This paper presents a comprehensive exploration of the implementation and verification of secure boot in embedded systems. Secure boot is a critical process that ensures the integrity and authenticity of the software executed during system boot-up. Our research focuses on the practical aspects of implementing secure boot mechanisms, including the generation and utilization of digital signatures based on public-key cryptography. We detail the step-by-step procedure of signing the boot image with a private key and the subsequent verification process using the corresponding public key. Furthermore, we discuss the techniques employed to validate the boot image's integrity and protect against tampering or unauthorized modifications. The findings of our study demonstrate the effectiveness of the implemented secure boot mechanism in safeguarding embedded systems from potential security threats.
