Calculation of Mutual Inductance Between Trapezoidal and Rectangular Coils with Angular Misalignment

Recently, the need for electric ships has emerged to prevent environmental pollution caused by greenhouse gases, and various studies are being conducted on electric ship wireless power transfer (WPT). Unlike conventional ship WPT systems, which have poor aesthetics and obstruct passengers' passage, this paper considers a system where the transmitting coil is embedded into a dock, and a receiving coil is attached to the lower part of the ship. This system can achieve maximum mutual inductance by using an asymmetrical coil due to the tilted structure of the ship between the transmitting coil and the receiving coil. In this paper, a geometrical calculation method for mutual inductance between a trapezoidal coil and rectangular coils under angular misalignment, based on the Biot-Savart law, is proposed.
