Synergistic Detection: A Hybrid CNN-XGBoost Model for Cherry Leaf Spot Magnitude Differentiation

The fungus Blumeriella jaapii is responsible for a widespread disease known as cherry leaf spot (CLS). This affects the productivity and economic prospects of cherry orchards worldwide. CLS, a complex beast with far-reaching implications for crops’ yield and fruit quality, requires comprehensive treatments. The proposed study novel hybrid model that creatively combines the benefits of Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) and XGBoost. This breakthrough offers an entirely new concept for automated plant disease detection research. But fundamentally, this study is based on a dataset built very carefully--there are 7500 high-resolution images from many orchards that were painstakingly collected and contributed. This rich dataset becomes the ground on which our hybrid model paints its masterly portrait of disease-discriminating prowess. This model has an impressive overall accuracy of 98.67%, which represents a breakthrough in plant disease diagnosis by robots. By departing from the precision, recall, and F1-score metrics, this then provides a deeper level of analysis that breaks down in more granular terms how effective the model is. Furthermore, it allows you to discern between CLS at different magnitudes as well. The Confusion Matrix is like an unfolding narrative itself. It depicts the finer points of model performance and reveals where it needs to be strengthened for training to be more relevant. One special feature of our approach involves the comparative analysis of collaborations between CNN and XGBoost.
