Radar Sensing Based on Wideband Programmable Metasurface

With the development of smart cities, the number of unmanned equipments is rapidly increasing, posing higher requirements for perception scenarios and technologies, such as low altitude flying targets and non line of sight targets. In this work, we propose a target detection system based on the wideband programmable metasurface, which effectively improves detection accuracy and expands detection scenarios. The quasi-butterfly reflecting element is designed and offers a stable 1-bit phase shift in the whole x band while its array achieves wideband beam scanning. The proposed system is utilized to achieve three-dimensional positioning and non line of sight target detection through conducted outdoor experimental verification. Due to low complexity and low cost, it is a fascinating choice for future perception scenarios.
