Test Bench for HIL Simulation of Centrifugal Pump System with Variable Speed Drive

A laboratory hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) workbench for the simulation of a centrifugal pump system equipped with a variable speed drive (VSD) is proposed in the paper. The coupled electric drive systems represent the pump and pipeline simulators respectively, connected with the help of a communication device and programmable logical controller (PLC). The electric drives together with interface devices make up the entire HIL simulator. A major component of the modeling methodology is the mathematical analysis of the pumping system. The examinations were conducted in order to investigate the suggested simulator. Tests have demonstrated the proposed system's accuracy and flexibility in modeling centrifugal pumping system behavior and operation modes.
