High-Fidelity 3D Modeling for Lumbar Spine: Advancing Precision and Understanding

The spinal column, crucial for body structure and spinal cord protection, is often studied using cadaver or animal data, lacking patient-specific considerations. This study addresses this gap by creating precise 3D spine models from CT or MRI scans, crucial for understanding biomechanics. Focusing on the lumbar spine (L1-L5), MIMICS software is utilized to construct accurate models from MRI data. These models enable examination of stress-strain relationships under axial compression, aiding in ANSYS software analysis. Intervertebral disc measurements closely match MRI images, highlighting accuracy. Notably, herniated segment discs exhibit reduced height compared to normal discs. Overall, this approach enhances understanding and treatment of spinal disorders, offering personalized insights into biomechanical behavior.
