Comprehensive Benefit Analysis on the Means of Energy Storage Access Aiming at Grid Security and RES Penetration

As the renewable energy penetration rising at recording high globally, side effects of renewable energy sources (RES) are also increasingly significant, one of which is the uncertain power generation that could not be scheduled on time. To consume the uncertainty brought by RES, energy storage has been put on the top of list. There are several modes for energy storage equipment involvement, including thermal units & energy storage, RES units & energy storage, individual energy storage and so on, while the comprehensive benefits of the various means of cooperation modes remains unclear. This paper thus establishes a benefit analysis framework for energy storage aiming at grid security and RES generation. The benefits of energy sources, grid and energy storage are modeled, while the benefit of demand side is considered stationary. The optimization model is then linearized so that it could be efficiently solved.
