Detection of Shell Waste on Sea Sand Using YOLOv5 Model

Seashells are valuable resources used in various applications, but their processing often generates waste found along coastlines, contaminating beach sand, a potential alternative for concrete production. This study proposes a system to detect shell waste in sea sand using YOLOv5 object detection. A custom image dataset was used to train the model, achieving an overall accuracy of 86.44%. This system can potentially improve the quality control of sea sand for construction purposes.
