Analytical Calculation of Series Impedance for Deeply Buried Coaxial Cables

A different formulation for the series impedance matrix is obtained for a deeply buried coaxial cable in terms of the Bessel functions from the flux linkage and electrodynamics scalar potential formula. The analytical formulations can model the proximity effect and skin effect in the series impedance calculations and easily solve problems where the finite-element analysis (FEA) may fail, as in high-frequency eddy current problems, extensive domains, and thin semiconductor regions. The formula is compared to classically known Ametani’s formulas and then compared with numerical results obtained from finite-element analysis for different values of frequency.
