Ozone Treatment Strategies for Efficient Color Removal in Wastewater

This paper presents a thorough analysis of the application of ozone generators in wastewater treatment processes. The study delves into the intricate systems involved, which encompass key components such as a high-voltage power supply, electrodes, and a dielectric material composed of glass. The strategic implementation of this glass dielectric material is aimed at mitigating direct electrical discharge. Mesh electrodes, exemplified by stainless steel corona electrodes, play a pivotal role in facilitating the ozone generation process. The generator is systematically supplied with air through an air pump, a recognized strategy that contributes to enhancing ozone production efficiency. At the heart of the ozone generation process lies in the corona discharge, initiated by the application of a high voltage-typically in the range of thousands of volts-across the electrodes. This process induces air breakdown at 25 kV/cm, with the potential for reduced voltage requirements through the introduction of additional glass dielectric material. The applied voltage stimulates a corona discharge around the corona electrode, leading to the breakdown of oxygen molecules ($O_{2}$) into individual oxygen atoms. These oxygen atoms subsequently combine with other oxygen molecules to generate ozone ($O_{3}$). The produced ozone is then seamlessly introduced into wastewater for treatment, underscoring its pivotal role in water purification processes.
