Investigation of Fuel cell tied Unified Filter towards grid resiliency for future smartgrid

Due to the growing amount of variable renewable energy, the power grid's dependability and stability depend on new power conditioners that make sure customers get smooth, consistent energy delivery. These conditioners are critical in producing power that not only fulfils high standards of quality but also maintains a balanced voltage and current to reliably satisfy demand. This is valid in both balanced and unbalanced settings, emphasising the need for power conditioners in stabilising energy supply from various sources. This study investigates the application of a Unified Power Quality Conditioner employing a Fuel Cell as the DC source for a Neutral-Point-Clamped multilevel inverter. This configuration is designed to address power quality challenges that occur with the inclusion of green energy sources in the power network. Separate control methodologies were implemented to create controllers for each level. Synchronous Reference Frame (SRF) theory provides a framework for controlling a Neutral-Point-Clamped (NPC) multilevel inverter, enabling its function as a power quality conditioner. This work proposes a UPQC for mitigating issues such as voltage sags and swells that disrupt the operation of the system. By integrating a PI control loop to ensure precise control of the DC link voltage, minimizing voltage fluctuations. The functionality of the proposed controller was verified through the utilization of MATLAB/Simulink simulations that encompassed a wide range of operating conditions.
