SDR Based Replay Attack for Drone Intervention

Drone detection and prevention systems are becoming increasingly important as the use of drones continues to rise. These systems are necessary to prevent unauthorized drones from entering restricted airspace, such as airports, military bases, and other critical infrastructure. Drones can pose a significant threat to public safety, security, and privacy, as they can be used for criminal activities, terrorism, espionage, or other malicious purposes. Detection and prevention systems can help mitigate these risks by providing early warning and alerting authorities to the presence of unauthorized drones in restricted areas, allowing them to take appropriate action to neutralize the threat. In this paper, we aim to create a drone prevention system by using a replay attack. We utilize software defined radios that can receive, transmit, and analyze radio frequency signals to read and record transmissions between the drone and the controller, and later use those recordings for our replay attack system. This allows turning off the drone’s propellers and provides different control functionalities over the drone (such as lift off and land functions). Overall, this will create a drone prevention system through the idea of replay attacks which will be able to jam or spoof radio frequency signals between the drone and the controller.
