Armour Conferences on Radio Interference Reduction: 1954-1964

The “Armour Conferences” were a series of Radio Interference Conferences held in the Chicago, Illinois area from 1954–1964. In the beginning, they were sponsored by the United States Military Services and organized by the Armour Research Foundation, but by the end of the ten-year period, the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) EMC Group (the forerunner to the present-day EMC Society) was involved as a cooperating entity. The timing of the conferences overlapped the start of the Institute of Radio Engineers (IRE) Professional Group on Radio Frequency Interference (PGRFI) in 1957. The IRE PGRFI preceded the IEEE's Electromagnetic Compatibility Group which became the IEEE EMC Society after the IRE and the American Institute of Electrical Engineers (AIEE) merged in 1963.
