Techno-Economic analysis of Rooftop PV Installation for Energy Transition in MSMEs

The number of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in India is significant. However, renewable energy techniques are not commonly used in their productive and non-productive machines. Rooftop PV modules can provide substantial energy savings for these businesses. As of 27th March 2022, there are over 7.9 million MSMEs in India, according to the Ministry of Micro, Small Medium Enterprises. [1] Among them, 90% own the properties or buildings where they operate. Despite the power supply shortages in developing countries like India, the adoption of solar technology and installation by MSMEs is still limited. There have been various assumptions and hypotheses about the factors that motivate or hinder MSMEs in adopting solar technology. Understanding these attitudes and perceptions is crucial to encourage the adoption of suitable suppliers, technicians, and government policies for solar technology. This analysis can provide evidence for MSMEs’ strategic planning to ensure sustainable business growth and offer new insights to policymakers, decision-makers, manufacturing, installation companies, and other stakeholders towards renewable energy as a part of long-term sustainable development.
