Noise Figure Calibration Technology Based on Cold Source Method and Its Engineering Application

With the development of the field of high-end precision device testing and measurement, noise figure, as an important parameter characterizing two-port networks, has also received increasing attention from researchers. The noise performance of microwave electronic systems can have a significant impact on their measurement results, so calibrating the noise figure is a necessary function of high-performance measurement instruments. This paper proposes a noise figure calibration technique based on the cold source method, relying on the domestic vector network analyzer platform. The method proposed in this article only requires the addition of a noise source calibration step and measurement on the basis of the standard S-parameter calibration process, without any other complex operations, to calculate and correct the noise figure of the vector network itself. Finally, this article validated the calibration of noise figure using a domestic network analyzer as a platform, introduced the overall calibration process, and compared the actual measurement values of the amplifier obtained with the device specifications.
