Bandwidth Enhancement of Metamaterial Absorber using Resistive Loading for X- and Ku-Band Applications

This work proposes a wideband metamaterial-based absorber for X- and Ku-band applications. The designed absorber is a metallic layer loaded with resistors printed on a low-cost FR-4 substrate to obtain the wideband response. The proposed structure has more than 90% absorption over a wide range of frequency bands from 7.68 – 18.82 GHz. This structure is polarization insensitive due to its symmetrical nature and its performance has been analyzed for different incident angles. Angular stability of up to 60-degree angle of incidence has been observed with absorptivity of more than 70% over the entire frequency range.
