Exploring Security, Privacy, and Forensics Concerns in the Metaverse

The notion of the “metaverse” has garnered considerable attention from professionals and scholars in various fields due to its potential to revolutionize how people engage with digital media, streamline workflows, and enhance interpersonal communication. With the use of advanced technologies, such as artificial intelligence and blockchain, the metaverse is transitioning from a mere idea in science fiction to an imminent reality. However, the metaverse is currently experiencing a multitude of cyberattacks, mainly due to its novel and complex infrastructure, which poses security, privacy, and forensic challenges. To address these issues, this paper employs a comprehensive methodology that involves conducting a literature review and analyzing the use case Virtual Verses. This paper aims to evaluate potential security, privacy, and forensic challenges in the metaverse. The outcomes of this paper will offer valuable perspectives for future scholars to explore the complexities and susceptibilities associated with privacy, security, and forensic matters within the metaverse. This will facilitate the development of a comprehensive understanding of these challenges.
