Indoor Localization Through Depth Estimation

This paper explores the vital field of depth estimation in computer vision with practical applications. Accurate depth estimation is crucial for robotics, autonomous vehicles, augmented reality, and object avoidance systems. The objective of this study is to determine the physical distance that exists between an ‘ordinary’ camera and the subjects of the research. Object detection and calculating the distance between the camera and the object are the two primary components that make up the whole. Object detection is achieved using YOLO and image processing, while depth can be calculated using triangulation to calculate precise distances from the camera. The evaluation and comparisons of findings are also provided.
