Classification of Waste with the Assistance of YOLO

Managing waste is a global concern that necessitates innovative approaches to optimize the collection process. The proposed system uses a network of cameras installed in waste collection trucks or stationary locations to capture images of waste disposal sites in real time. The YOLO algorithm instantly provides feedback on the types and quantities of waste that are visible after examining these images. Subsequently, collection routes are optimized, certain waste categories are prioritized like organic, inorganic, dry waste, and resources are allocated efficiently with the use of this data. Our design of the project prioritizes the ability to precisely identify the different categories of waste, which is crucial for waste collection.
