A Network Security Insight based on AI/ML for 5G Advanced & Beyond

This paper provides an analysis of the emerging security risks and AI/ML (Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning) based solutions for 5G advanced and beyond. It outlines the current state of the art related to AI/ML enablers in 5G Advance based on 3GPP Release 18 considering the radio and core network, network management and orchestration, as well as AI/ML empowered applications running on UEs (User Equipment). Furthermore, it examines how the AI/ML may evolve in 6G with the adoption of native AI elaborating the main concept and key features and provides a detailed overview of the 6G RIGOROUS architecture highlighting the emerging use of AI/ML in network security risk assessment and prevention through different design layers and operational mechanisms. A detailed analysis is then conducted considering the recent AI/ML based security solutions highlighting the key mechanisms and coordination requirements.
