An Improved Coot Optimization Algorithm for Optimal Power Flow in Small-Scale Power System

The economic and reliable operation of modern electricity grids relies on insights from Optimal Power Flow (OPF) studies. Implementing a robust, swift, and reliable optimization algorithm is crucial for this purpose. This paper introduces the Improved Coot Optimization Algorithm (ICOA) to address OPF challenges in small-scale power systems. Integrating Lévy flight into population initialization strategically enhances the algorithm, improving the fitness of initial Coot individuals for superior OPF outcomes. The algorithm optimizes generation costs, considering the valve-point loading (VPL) effect and technical objectives related to voltage security. Simulations on the IEEE-30 bus system demonstrate ICOA's superior performance in minimizing fuel costs, improving the voltage profile, and enhancing stability compared to existing techniques. ICOA proves to be a promising tool for small-scale power grid management, offering economic and technical benefits with fast convergence. The findings highlight ICOA as an effective approach for addressing OPF challenges in small-scale grids for the considered set of objectives.
