A Compact Monopole Antenna for N79/WLAN/Downlink and Uplink Satellite Communication Applications

A very compact monopole antenna for N79/ WLAN/ uplink and downlink satellite communication applications is investigated. The proposed radiator comprises of a tapered line microstrip etched with the combination of two ellipses along with a elliptical defected ground structure (DGS) printed on either side of FR-4 substrate. The antenna suited for a spectrum of 4.1-9 GHz for sub 6 GHz: N79 band (4.4-5 GHz), WLAN (5.15-5.825 GHz) and downlink (7.25-7.75 GHz), and uplink (8.25-8.9 GHz) applications. The compact size of 15 × 19 mm2 with a gain variation of 1.9-2.53, an average efficiency of 78.76% and stable radiation patterns makes the antenna suitable for portable wideband wireless communication applications.
