The Performance of a Brushless DC Motor with Six Step Commutation-Based Speed Controller Optimized by PSO Algorithm

This research analyzes the performance of a PID (Proportional Integral Derivative) controller using the six-step commutation method using the Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm to increase the efficiency of Brushless DC (BLDC) motor performance. The PSO optimization algorithm with minimum RMSE as the objective function is used to obtain the best parameters for the PID controller. Test the performance of the BLDC motor with the proposed control method using Psim software, Square-wave voltage source with Peak-to-peak voltage amplitude 2000 Vpeak when the motor is run for 2 seconds without load. The results show that the proposed PSO method is able to increase the performance of the BLDC motor with an average speed of 1988.60 RPM in a shorter time, a greater average torque of 0.243 Nm, and less torque ripple compared to the conventional one, which was only able to reach a speed of 1976.99 RPM, 0.242 Nm of torque with also more torque ripple
