A System of Software Tools for Investigation of the Cognitive Function of Elliptical Sentence Generation

A human ability for elliptical sentence generation is actively investigated in the past few decades. This ability means that a person can shorten some words in a sentence without a lost in its content, and these words can be clearly restored. However, we have not found yet any testing materials or computer tests to test this cognitive function. Previously, we presented some testing materials. In this paper, a system of software tools is presented and the results of a pilot student testing are discussed. Software tools consist of a desktop application for searching ellipses and Moodle questions generation and a system of plugins for Moodle. Moodle plugins present a new type of Quiz question. We can use these plugins not only for ellipses-based testing but also for any kind of (foreign, programming) language learning. The plugins present a task, where a interviewee should search and cross out some odd words. Some geometry tasks are adopted as testing materials.
