Conceptualising determinants of employee innovative work behavior: The role of decent work, social media use, social capital in higher education

Higher education institutions must be innovative in their approaches to teaching and learning due to the intense competition that exists worldwide. In an evolving world, innovation is essential for maintaining a competitive edge. This paper aimed to investigate the determinants of employee innovative work behavior, focusing on the role of decent work, social media use, and social capital in higher education. A structured literature review from different academic databases was conducted to understand these determinants. The inclusion criteria include articles that were published between 2020 and 2023. The number of articles included in this paper is twenty- eight (28). Out of these twenty-eight articles, nine constructs emerged that underpin the conceptual framework of this paper. The constructs include decent work, social-oriented usage of social media, work-oriented usage of social media, work efficiency of social media, expressive ties, instrumental ties, relational capital, cognitive capital, and employee innovative work behavior. The findings show that decent work positively influences social media usage, and social media promotes the number of ties and relational and cognitive capital of the employees. Furthermore, the findings show that most research was done in developed countries.
