Resource and Power Allocation for Sum-Throughput Maximization in RIS-Assisted TDMA Wireless Sensor Networks

In this article, we consider a reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS)-assisted uplink wireless sensor network (WSN) in which the distributed sensors transmit their gathered data to a fusion center (FC) during their specific time slot. The adaptive time-division multiple access scheme is taken into account for the uplink transmission of the sensors. The sum achievable throughput of the sensors at the presence of the RIS is maximized with some constraints on the power consumption, time interval association, and a minimum achievable rate for each sensor. The modeled problem is not convex, so it is solved using the alternating minimization technique where the problem is divided into subproblems with respect to each of the variables by fixing the others. The power allocation subproblem has been solved through a suggested algorithm to satisfy the derived Karush–Kuhn–Tucker conditions. The numerical results shows the meaningful outperformance of the proposed method over its counterparts.
