A Comprehensive Review on Granularity Perspective of the Access Control Models in Cloud Computing

In this review, we explore into the critical realm of access control in cloud computing, a fundamental component ensuring data and resource confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The increasing prevalence of cloud computing has led to a growing need for solid and effective access control solutions. However, the emergence of connected devices and multi-user access presents increasing risks that must be addressed. Our research comprehensively analyses three conventional and seven hybrid access control strategies utilized in cloud computing. Notably, we emphasize the role of Granularity as a decisive factor in selecting an access control model. By presenting a granularity-based comparison of these models, we aim to clarify these models' operation and underscore the advantages of adopting fine-grained access control mechanisms in cloud computing. Importantly, the review brings into focus the trade-off between security and efficiency, offering insights into how granular control can influence both aspects.
