Suspended Elliptical Slot-Based High Gain Antenna for GPR Application

This paper describes the design of high gain directional antenna for ground penetrating radar (GPR) application. It produces better performance at frequency range from 878 MHz to 1260 MHz. In this design, an elliptical shaped radiating patch has been suspended at the top of rectangular shaped ground plane. To achieve the wide frequency band, an elliptical slot has been introduced at the top radiating patch. The designed antenna has been fabricated using aluminum sheet to reduce the cost. The studies show always better than -10 dB in the proposed band. The antenna gain and simulated efficiency is also achieved better than 8 dBi and 89% respectively. It may be applied in military, underground warehouses, unexploded mines, bomb shelters, etc. Besides, in civilian life, it may be used for finding buried pipes, undetected blanks and the people who are left under collapsed buildings.
