Subsetting with Logical Conditions

This chapter introduces logical conditions and the main logical operators. These represent the key elements for selection operations based on logical criteria, not just a simple list of items or selection helpers. Logical operators are often presented by means of truth tables and graphically by means of set theory. A detailed knowledge of these representations is not strictly necessary to understand and become familiar with logical conditions. The chapter focuses on row selection. All the possible complexity of defining selection criteria is demanded to the logical condition and its evaluation. In the base selection method, Python syntax to select rows based on a logical condition, single or composed, is simple and does not make use of any function, but only of square brackets.
