Robust Control of Active Suspension System Using MATLAB/Simulink

This paper presents the design of a robust control for active suspension systems. An active suspension system offers superior vehicle handling under varying load conditions than a passive suspension system. However, active suspension systems response interaction with road bumps generates higher command signal when not controlled. Thus, the mathematical and physical modelling approaches are shown and compared. The models are distinguished in terms of their dynamic characteristics to determine the size and control of the actuator. The control design objectives are satisfying passenger comfort and improving vehicle handling. A theoretical framework for analysis the system stability and control gain is provided. The simulation results evaluate the improved performance of the robust controller during acceleration, braking, cornering, a bump height, and rough road profile.
