Cloud Services — Boon or Bane: A Comprehensive Review

The IT industry has been revolutionized with the advent of Cloud computing, in particular with the launch of Amazon Web Services (AWS) in 2002. Ever since multiple Enterprises have migrated their applications, data, and processes to the cloud from their traditional on-premise data centers. Although cloud computing offers a wide range of benefits, it also has its own challenges, because of which few enterprises have migrated back to on-premise infrastructure from the cloud. This paper aims to provide a comprehensive review of the advantages of cloud computing and analyze the reasons for enterprises to move away from the cloud. Cloud cost being the key factor, some of the reasons for the cloud cost surge and methods to prevent and optimize the cost surge are discussed. Based on all these analyses this paper attempts to determine if migrating to the cloud outweighs the challenges associated with it.
