15 Sustainability Has Multiple Components and Implications

Sustainability means sustaining—maintaining—the current status indefinitely. When the term is used with reference to the planet, it means to maintain life in a stable state. Sustainability of the planet can occur only if everyone stops the activities that are leading to more harm, ideally while also reversing the harm that has already been done. To be sustainable, we cannot continue to sustain the unsustainable.
