A Circularly Polarized 2x2 Element MIMO Antenna with Dual Band for V2X Applications

Today, vehicle-to-everything (V2X) applications use multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) antenna to ensure reliable communication. In the existing works, various designs are designed for the MIMO antenna; each design has a flaw in communication. Automotive antenna design is difficult because of MIMO antenna performance loss. This degradation occurs through mutual coupling and leads to renewed spectral growth. To address the shortcomings in the existing MIMO antenna design for V2X, a novel 2x2 element MIMO antenna design is proposed to improve reliability. In this research, a circularly polarized 2x2 element MIMO antenna that achieves dual band for V2X applications is presented. A novel MIMO antenna design has resonated at dual frequencies between 5.6GHz - 5.8 GHz for the V2X communications. To lessen the impact of mutual coupling between the MIMO components, a unique spiral S-shaped resonator metamaterial and defective ground structure (DGS) were employed. DGS considerably minimizes the mutual coupling between nearby antennas, which impacts the electromagnetic field distribution. The MIMO antenna uses a quarter-wave matching feedline and a substrate made from Rogers RT DUROID 5880. The proposed model can analyze performance metrics like gain, return loss, Voltage Standing Wave Ratio (VSWR), Envelop correlation coefficient (ECC), Diversity Gain (DG), Axial ratio, Total Active Reflection Coefficient (TARC) and Mean Effective Gain (MEG). The design offers an ECC of <0.25 dB, which proves that the proposed design can obtain better performance than other existing models.
