Towards Robust and Cost-Effective Smart Electromagnetic Environments Empowering Next-Gen Wi-Fi Systems

The cost-effective and robust deployment of Smart Electromagnetic Environments (SEMEs) empowering indoor Wi-Fi networks by means of static and passive electromagnetic skins (SP-EMSs) is dealt with. In this framework, this work addresses a paramount aspect towards a mass-market production and deployment of such "field manipulating" devices. Towards this end, it is shown that in similar scenarios/operative conditions a simple optimization of the installation position of a pre-defined SP-EMS is sufficient to guarantee a suitable coverage enhancement, without the need for an ad-hoc redesign of its reflective layout.
